Patrick Macias has another Hot Tears of Shame podcast out called CITY POP that is available for download now. Don't forget to read the description before AND after listening to CITY POP.
The music reminds me of a friend who fretted over the right music to be played when she and her boyfriend hosted dinner parties. Easy, breezy tunes sung in mostly Japanese with only some English would have fit the bill. So sad. Thankfully, I rather like CITY POP.

Glad you liked it, hopefully un-ironically. I know this kind of Japanese music is a hard sell in the age of J-Rock, idols, and really bad R&B. I figure the function of City Pop is to make you RELAX as quickly as possible in a crowded, hectic urban environment, for instance, a hellishly packed rush-hour train. Always worked wonders for me, but then again, I like Steely Dan (un-ironically).
Oh, un-ironically, that's for sure! It actually contains groups from which I already have CDs. And you're talking to someone who stopped listening to Belle & Sebastian after they moved to LA.
If I remember correctly, a member of Steely Dan was recently interviewed on the BBC (radio), only I can't remember which show...Some funny story about beating Eminem for a music award.
