The Birthday Party

I remember in elementary school we used to have a book that only had some crazy illustration and maybe one sentence for a caption. With it we would have to create a story based on the picture. When this book, The Birthday Party, arrived at work, I totally wanted to do that again.

However, I'm incredibly lazy, so here is a great video of the photographer discussing the book. Be sure to watch it!

All Hail the Nerd in Chief...

Breakin' the Law, Learnin' to Draw!

I've had this 'Drawing on the Dark Side of the Mind' book for nearly 10 years and after finally getting all the necessary supplies by stealing from grad school and two different jobs, oh, and one job interview, and then an art supply store where I should have started my thievery in the first place, I'm ready to begin with the first lesson!

The first thing one has to do is draw a 'pre-instruction self portrait' and here are examples from the book:

And here was my first attempt. I look like a hardened butch at a women's correctional facility! Don't fuck with me or I'll cut you!

Weirdly I did a great job with my right eye.

No need, doctors out there, I'm already medicated...

Quick Book Reviews #2

A great little paperback to take with you and sneak peeks at in downtime. These little sentences, paragraphs, etc. are ones you wish you'd written yourself, and no doubt falsely remember some of them as your own as you get older.

Ugh! At least 'Oldboy' had some good fight scenes...

It breaks your heart but manages to put it back together again while you finish the wonderful story.

This is a play that would get teen boys into acting. Drinking, smoking, swearing, playing poker, all with Irish accents. A great way to retell an old story, to boot.

Colombo would have nailed that mystery in, like, seconds. 'And just one more thing...My wife likes to read up on nautical stuff and she tells me about it and so...
