Two Great Things That Go Great Together

Years ago in London I loved listening to 'Desert Island Discs' on BBC Radio 4. There was even an afternoon play that made fun of it that I would love to get my hands on.

Sadly, 'Desert Island Discs' was not available to hear online and I wasn't going to stay up late just to hear it live from my computer. I have a job, well, usually. And no way was I able to last until the programme repeated on Sunday.

But this week I hear that finally the show is now available on BBC's iPlayer! And who is going to be on it? Barry Manilow!

Listen here for your first taste, America: Desert Island Discs

5K in 20 Months!

Remember those car adverts where drivers showed off their pickup truck and the location where it hit some 100,000-mile mark? Well, this is as close as I've gotten with my first car that was purchased as new from the dealer, my Toyota Yaris dubbed Guy Noir:

This happened on Wednesday and you'll see that it was just before 6 pm Central. Those in Minnesota who know me will get an extra laugh at exactly WHERE the 5,000 mark hit:

Welcome to the World, Poppy!

Neil was my flatmate in San Francisco for a number of years and just before he moved in he had started dating Kristin, who coincidentally was in a class or two with me when we both went to USF. Exactly 10 years to the month (correct me if I'm wrong, Neil), Poppy is born! She is beautiful! Just like the the California state flower.

Sugarcoat this!

In a recent post I mentioned buying some clever vinyl clings for my car to cover the scratches. It took a while thanks to weather conditions and my being lazy, but finally we have the results!

Sure, the sides don't match each other, but then neither do the scratches!

And as an added bonus, I will be able to figure out which black Toyota Yaris in the parking lots of Minneapolis is my Guy Noir because of the hippie leaves. Oh yeah...
